MATTHEWS TOWN HALL/LIBRARY

Matthews Town Hall/Library was opened and dedicated to the people of Matthews, on September 30, 2001.  Mayor Myers presided over the opening ceremonies as shown in the attached video.

Under Mayor Myers leadership, the Town of Matthews purchased the old Depot Shopping Center, which had fallen into a bad state of repair following the closing of the Harris Teeter store (which was located roughly in the area of the current Town Hall/Library).  The visioning process for the Town Center (now known as Matthews Station), began several years prior to the opening.  Mayor Myers working with other elected officials, staff and the private development sector, oversaw the completion of the Town Hall/Public Library.  Today this stands as one of the best known destination points in Matthews.

Additionally, adjacent to the Village Green, the old Depot building and caboose, are home to the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center.  The Depot was refurbished using tourism funds.

HENDRICK TECHNOLOGY OPENING– "GIVE BACK"

Mayor Myers is a strong believer in forming partnerships within the community.  One such partnership is identified in this video with Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Automotive.  Listen as Mayor Myers expresses his strong commitment to all residents to give back to their community the talents that they have to offer.  “Matthews greatest asset are its people and their willingness to step up and volunteer their time and talents, to keep this a great community”.
